Week in Photos #21

What did you do Memorial Day weekend?  I know quite a few people that headed up to the New England area to spend the long weekend, us included.

The week started off with a Monday night dinner at the Oxenburg’s – Amanda and I both missed a bridal shower that we were invited to last month so we decided to get together with the bride to be and have a home cooked meal…Amanda prepped the lasagna the night before so all she had to do was pop it in the oven and wait for everyone to arrive! She’s become quite domestic since she’s gotten married!  😉

I had a buy one get one free code for Moe’s…home of the Coke Freestyle machine!  So on Friday before our long weekend I went out to lunch with some coworkers.  Chicken burrito for me…tacos for them.  I think I like this place better than Chipotle!

Since Friday was an early day for me I had time to do a set of my own gels at home.  I knew a manicure wouldn’t last me through the long weekend and I didn’t want to bring a bottle of polish with me for touchups so gels were the way to go.  Glitter included!

We spent Saturday and Sunday in Cape Cod on a family trip.  After heading out to dinner at which I didn’t take ANY pictures because I forgot my camera at the hotel…the adults hung out and did adult things and got ready for bed while the kids hung out for a little while doing…uhh..kid things?  The boys had to be up at 3AM to prep for their fishing trip so it was a relatively early night for all.

My pj’s for the weekend:

The boy packed lucky boxers in hopes that it would lead to a good fishing trip!  And it worked!  Everyone went home with coolers packed with fish!  I *puffy heart* seabass :)

Since we wanted to get back home as quickly as possible on Sunday, we decided to skip a real lunch and just stop by the 7eleven in town to pick up some snacks for the road.  Corn dog and a cheese stick for me and a sandwich for the boy.  And one can’t go to 7eleven and not get a slurpee, right?!  We even had our own slurpee bartender mixing it up for us!

When we got home we came back to find Milo with this on his back and tufts of fur all over the floor.  This was the first time he’s been left alone without humans or another cat around over night so we think stress might have caused it…

Slightly panicked, we called the vet the next morning and made an appointment…he said it was an allergy…to what, no one knows.  A shot, a bottle of pills and $120 later we were all back home.  How one feeds a cat pills is beyond my comprehension…but I guess we’ll find out tonight.  Side note: the turkey gained over a pound since his last visit in Jan!  Thats 20.6 lbs of cat hiding between the boy’s legs!

We must have brought home at least 30 fish from this weekend’s trip!  I decided to try to cook one up for dinner last night Chinese style…it came out pretty good for a first time try!  I probably could have stopped cooking it a few minutes earlier…it was a little overdone and the oil that I put over it could have been a little hotter.  At least we have plenty more for me to practice on!

Week in Photos # 19 & 20

Another double week post…

Nothing too exciting going on over here…hence the lack of pictures and posts!

We tried to go biking on what was supposed to be a nice Saturday….loaded the bikes up and drove all the way to the bay…and it started to monsoon.  FAIL!

The following week we headed back to said bay and it turned out to be a gorgeous day!   Did three runs for a total of 19 miles.  Hopefully we’ll sign up for a good bike tour this year…Hoping to be able to do at least 50 miles…we’ll see how my legs and butt fare…

Seriously how did May come and go so quickly?!  Quickie snapshot of our Cinco de Mayo dinner at Casa Pepe.  Dinner was much better this time around than the first time we had dinner there a few years ago.  Maybe it was the pomegranate margarita that influenced me!  Actually…the boy’s paella was much better than my pork chop…we ended up switching less than half way through :)

I finally found a Coke Freestyle machine!  :)  If you don’t know, I have a somewhat unhealthy addiction to cherry coke.  Yes, I’m one of those weird people that love cherry flavor…and no, I don’t think it tastes like cough medicine…  The only problem I have with the coke that comes out of it is that my cherry coke seems to be bright red!  I’ve also tried the raspberry coke (yuck), vanilla coke yuck) and cherry vanilla coke (YUCK!!).  I still haven’t figured out what the difference between diet coke and coke zero is….so i just stick to diet cherry coke :)   TIP: let the soda run for a little while before you put your cup under it!  Otherwise it will taste like what the person before you got! Especially if you are getting one of the Dasani water selections!

Got my nails done with Gelish….I’m not really a fan…but its boat loads cheaper than Calgel so I give it a whirl every now and then.   My nail girl talked me into getting a little glitter on my ring finger…it made me feel extra girly :)

This little asshole was trying to make me even LATER than I already was for work!  It kept squaking and honking at my car and making motions that it was going to peck at it!  I tried to go around him/her and it just ran in front of my car again!  Seriously?!  As I think back though…it was probably a mamma goose trying to clear the road for the babies to cross.

The boy and I went out to HideChan ramen one night after work.  It was okayyy….my selection was actually better than his for once!

We threw a fund raiser for my manager at work because her husband is going to be going through some hefty medical expenses in the next few months.  10 baskets were raffled off and lucky me won the bath and body works one!  :)  I won’t be needing soaps or lotions for a long time!

Another double week post!

I have been loosing out…technically not accruing vacation days…for the last two months!  So some time off was due!
The boy and I took a day off two weeks ago to do some running and pick up our glasses that were finally ready.

It was so peaceful at the park in the morning with almost the entire park to ourselves!  :)  And this little buddy we ran into…

After our run and a quick shower, we were off to the  city to pick up our glasses…since the boy needed to have his lenses swapped out, we decided to stop into Cha Chang Tang for a quickie breakfast.   May I present to you…the best spam and egg sandwich I have ever had!

Delish!

So go figure….my vision has been the same for the last five years…and this year the doctor told me that my vision actually got better!  Above mentioned shiny new glasses…

I caught some nasty sun glare driving home the other day…which led me to sitting in traffic for about 20 minutes…exciting life I lead, yes I know…

The boy and I have rediscovered diners!  We had lunch at one of our local diners two weekends in a row!  Nommy! I heart chocolate egg creams!

Ok…so who else out there does this with their waffles???  EVERYHOLEMUSTBEFILLEDWITHSYRUP

We both ran the Bronx Zoo 5k!  It was a lot of fun…and my ‘little’ cousin had a blast!  Full post coming soon!

Last week was pretty uneventful during the weekdays…but this weekend was pretty activity filled!

Got a gel manicure this weekend.  The first time trying the Gelish brand colors.  Like most soak off gel brands (excluding Calgel) the color selection pretty much sucks.  The color I chose is called black cherry.  I’m happy enough with it…and saw a few other colors that I’d be able to tolerate.  But the selection is seriously limited!

Headed to lunch with the boy, E and NinjaCyn…surprised everyone and suggested we go to the diner instead of our usual, Viet!   I got two eggs over easy with Canadian Bacon and waffle fries instead of home fries…and a vanilla egg cream!  The eggs were slightly over cooked – resulting in less runny yolk for my toast to sop up.  I was not expecting the enormous pile of fries that came along with the substitution!  Fries were shared among all!  The boy got a Western omelette and a waffle.  Random? Yes.  Good?  Yes!

After lunch NinjaCyn and I headed to the city for IMATS!  This is the second year it is in NY…last year was awful…this year was less awful.  But we will definitely be skipping it next year.   Not until they have more vendors there.

On Sunday we found ourselves waking up early to go running.  Running?   Yes you heard me right.  Why?  Because Ivy, the boy, and I signed up for the Bronx Zoo 5k!  Do we run?  No.  Should suggestions/fitness challenges be made during dinner and (many) drinks?  No.   The good thing is that we were able to round up some running buddies!  We spent the day at Prospect Park where they have a 5k loop around the park.  It was tough.  I didn’t do the entire loop running.  According to my app, 2.6 out of the 3.2 miles  was spent running.  Which sounds about right since I cycled through my couch to 5k app twice.  The boy’s leg cramped really bad so he had to stop less than half way in.  Mikie could have lapped us if he chose to do another round…and Ron stayed behind with us chatting and catching up!

Lunchtime!  What better way to reward a hard run than with some good food with good company!
There was a decent selection of trucks to choose from.  We hopped on line to get lunch and only had about a 10 minute wait.  By the time everyone else arrived to meet us the lines were outrageous!  There were about 15 trucks in total and I think between ALL of us, almost every truck was tried!

The boy and I got lunch from the Kimchi Taco Truck.  Taco combo for him, taco bowl for me!  Rice cakes and kimchi rice balls on the side for everyone to share!  Ron and Mikie also got lunch from the same truck…although for the life of me I can’t remember what they got…except for a side of nachos!

It was pretty warm out so we also got drinks from the Kelvin Slush Truck.  Drinks were good.  Would I wait on line for it for 30+ minutes? No.

We found a nice seat (read: hogged an entire bench for the latecomers) right in front of the Grand Army Plaza arch.  :)   Stayed until around 5pm – thank goodness I went back to the car to get the boy’s long sleeved shirt to wear…I didn’t want to catch too much sun…and I had already felt my shoulders getting darker!  Too bad the boy and Ron didn’t do the same.  Can we say LOBSTER???  :)

Still catching up!  Two posts in one day?  Yeah…I’m good like that! 😉  Or lazy like that…however you want to say it…I won’t get mad.

Nothing too exciting over the last few weeks…

I spent the last three weekends visiting cemeteries.  As each year passes, the visits hurt less…yet I miss everyone even more.
Some of our loved ones have been with us for so long that not having them here anymore feels odd and out of the ordinary…

While others did not get to spend enough time with us here and were taken away far before their time was up…

A sure sign the spring is here!  The cherry blossoms in the neighborhood have started to bloom…and just as quickly many have already shed their blossoms…

I finally joined ebates!  Yeah…thats totally a referral link…but at least I’m honest, right?  So go sign up!  You’d be surprised at how much online shopping you actually do!  I rarely shop online, but from the instances that I have, I’ve already earned $13 back!  So go ahead and go sign up…and if you use my link we BOTH get a bonus $5! :)  When I first signed up they were running a promotion for a free gift card…so I picked a Target one.  (and yes, it has already been spent!)  Now go sign up!  After your first purchase, you’ll get the $5 deposited into your account!

The boy said I should eat breakfast.  So I bought some Laughing Cow cheese wedges at Costco last week.  I didn’t bring my lunch baggie into work on this day because we were having a catered lunch for a meeting that I had to attend.  So I put it in my jacket pocket.  Then I rethought the idea and moved it  into my purse.  Bad idea…both times!

Looks like I’m a little behind in posting!
At least I’ve still been snapping away! :)

I was walking around Costco during my weekly visit…and in addition to their usual sample offerings they had detergent samples!  Detergent, stain remover and brightener all in one little pod!  I brought it home and mom loved it!  So much so that she sent me back to buy her a container of them!  It makes it a lot easier she said so she doesn’t have to lift the giant bottle of detergent.

My parents were raving about this new sushi place they found in Bensonhurst…mainly because it is one of those ‘all you can eat’ type of places but you are not limited to ordering just sushi – you can order small dishes of cooked foods and appetizers as well!  It sounded like a place similar to where we went in Toronto so we decided to give it a shot.  It was only okayyyyy…concept is there…delivery is not!  And the wait was ridiculous!  I did appreciate that they had 5 different types of tobiko though! :)

Mutant apple???  Sometimes I bring an apple into work for breakfast.  I always cut up the apple at home…this apple didn’t turn brown after being exposed to the air for 2+ hours!  I got distracted and called away for something and left it out in the open…expecting to come back to a yucky brown oxidized apple, I was shocked!  Apple was Fuji if you were wondering!

I had to run to the mall after work one day to pick up a gift for Fi (who turned 2 on 3/26!) and as I was walking towards the build a bear store I passed by this in the mall….can we say EXCITED!?  Lets just hope that the sales girls aren’t as annoying as the ones in the city!

On a recent obscenely warm day for March I decided to go the liquid lunch route…and it helped that I had a $5 birthday credit on my RedMango card!  :)  So this cost me a whopping $2.15!  :)

And here’s a sneak peek at FiFi’s cake!!

Doubling up on my weeks!

Round 2 with another avocado and this time removing the pit was a success!

And that avocado soon met some tomatoes, fresh mozz and balsamic vinegar for another healthy salad for mom!

I finally got my Influenster Love VoxBox!  I was a little worried that my box might have been lost in the mail because others in the area had gotten theirs more than a week before I got mine!  Contents post coming soon!

Took the bikes out for the first time this season!  It was a…uhh…nice…ride?  It was probably the COLDEST day in weeks.  And when I say cold I mean it was 31 degrees when we STOPPED biking according to my phone.  Mind you we were right next to the highway and ocean…with bone chilling winds coming at us from all directions!  But nonetheless we had a good time!  It was nice to get back out!  I also ordered a new helmet and some gear that was on clearance for our future rides!

Look at this adorable manicure set my mom picked up for me!  I doubt the tools are any good…but I’m keeping this at the office for emergencies!  There have been so many times I’ve drawn blood while trying to fix my cuticle or a hangnail!

I found these Green Tea Mochis at the market.  I was so happy because not only was the mochi green tea flavored, but the filling was also!  Usually its red bean or some other strange filling I don’t like.  I ate one and forgot the rest at the boy’s house.  I said I’d pick them up next weekend…and he gave me the look like “yeah right like there will be any left by the time you come back!”

Fear not!  I returned to the market only to find a JACKPOT!  They also had custard filled mochi!  SCORE!   Or so I thought…my brother tried one…and hijacked the package from me after I had one.  Oh well…I don’t need all those sweets anyway!

Pear took me out for my birthday dinner.  We tried to go to The Farm on Adderley in Ditmas Park but when we got there we were told it was going to be about a 45 minute wait!  The host suggested that we walk around and find a bar and then he will call us when a table would be ready.

We ended up walking over to Purple Yam  and were able to get a seat over there with a minimal wait.  After looking over the drink menu, we decided on a guava martini for me and a thai chili martini for Pear.  The boy had a root beer :-)   We watched the bartender make Pear’s drink…he took some thai chili’s and muddled them…then into a shaker with sake and ice!  I tried a little of this drink and it was SPICY!!!

I love the photoscape program I found to edit pictures.  Its 823867286 times simpler than Photoshop and Lightroom!  Although I’m sure the pro’s would argue that the results are no where near as good.  But for my untrained eye, it makes my pictures a little more appealing…and thats what matters, right?!  Here I’m working on the dinner that we had at Morimoto’s to celebrate Pear’s birthday.

I love eyelashes.  No….I LOVE eyelashes. I have a serious case of lash envy!  (some refer to it as an eyelash obsession!) That would be due to the fact that I have the shortest, sparsest lashes ever!  And they point downwards to boot!
On the weekends you can usually find me sporting a pair of falsies.  Yes, I put glue mere millimeters away from my eyeballs…and YES it does sting like hell if the glue gets into your eyes.  I usually buy my lashes in sets of 10 from eBay.  After shipping they come out to just around $1/pair!  not bad, huh?!  :)  It makes me feel less guilty about throwing them out at the end of the night when i ruin them by ripping them off.  :)
This pic was snapped as I was waiting in the car for Pear to come down so we could head off to Woodbury for some shopping!  This was the first time wearing a pair from this set…much shorter and fuller than I’m used to…but I like them!

Attended a birthday dinner on our day off from work.  The birthday boy’s girlfriend brought along a candle for the cake that was umm…a little extravagant?

It was a little chilly this weekend and my buddy Milo was the perfect foot warmer!

At the hospital the nurse gave us a marker to bring up to radiology with us so they could mark mom…when we got upstairs to radiology the nurse told use to keep the wrapped one as a souvenir and she used one that she already had.  Mom got a chuckle out of it…at least it broke the tension, right?

I let her hold my lucky ninja for good luck :) Even though he was tucked away in a locker the whole time…

On Saturday this nice surprise came to our door courtesy of Lili!  So sweet of her…and I’m proud to say its been in the house for 2 days so far and its still going strong!

My allergies were TERRIBLE last weekend!  And these drops burned like HELL when I put them in!  I guess it didn’t help that I was rubbing my eyes all day…

Got this in the mail from Sephora…Not sure if I’m going to redeem it for the gift or not though since I might get tempted to shop.  Although I DO need some more foundation…I’d say I have less than a month left with the bottle I’m using!

I love the Target I go to!  Not only does the pharmacist know my name but in the cafe area they have all of the condiments neatly lined up in little rows!  ALL THE TIME!

Mom has a small procedure coming up which will require a hospital visit…so off to Bloomingdales I went to find her something small to cheer her up during her recovery.  I REALLY REALLY wanted this Gund bear…but of course they were sold out and they wouldn’t give me the display one.  So I had to go with Plan B…a mug.  But she does enjoy a cup of coffee every day at home with her Keurig…so at least I know it’ll be used!

It has been obscenely warm these last few weeks…I’m talking 40’s-50’s in February!  (Am I the only one that feels a little short changed on winter weather??)  Its been so warm that the crocuses have started popping up in the garden!  These little guys are so cute…they open and close with the temperature!  Obviously it was a little chilly when I snapped this picture!

Had a last minute dinner on Sunday night at Rach’s place.  We can always count on Rach for hosting a classy dinner – with table runners and chargers to boot!   (Even if there is a stripper pole installed just a foot to to the left of the dining room table!  😉  In her defense though…her male roommates installed it prior to her moving in!)

On Valentine’s Day I treated myself to an extra long shower and topped it off with a face mask!  It was a nice treat from being in a hard hat and construction boots all day!

Above mentioned hat and boots!  Occasionally for work I need to check on sites that are in construction phases.  Exciting, I know.

Had lunch with mom and my brother at our local sushi restaurant.  After we paid the bill the waitress came over and gave these to mom and myself.  :-) Little lollipops with a mesh rose wrapped around the base.

Got a new laptop at work….usually they’re hand me downs from the executives who get the real new ones….but I believe this is evidence that i got a brand spanking new one too!  :)

Ordered some limited edition Android toys last week.  They were all sold out from the usual places where we get them from – apparently they sold like hotcakes!  We were able to find them from a vendor in Hong Kong….shipping took just about a week!  (Hello ebay sellers…why do your products take 3+ weeks when I order from you in HK???)   These are special Androids created by Dead Zebra for Chinese New Year!

I have been wanting a new Crock Pot for a while…and I’ve been stalking various ones on sale.  Target finally put one of the fancier ones on sale for $29.99…SCORE!  Cooked my first meal in it for mom…hopefully she’ll like it!  We’re trying to get her to eat healthier!  The recipe couldn’t be easier!  I made a simple spice rub – paprika, cayenne, white pepper, black pepper, salt, thyme, onion powder and some other misc herbs I had and rubbed the bird inside and out.  layered the bottom of the pot with some potatoes, carrots and celery and stuffed the cavity with some as well.  Set it on low for 8 hours and the result is fall-off-the-bone chicken!  :)
*NOTE…I made this recipe twice so far…I tried cooking it for 6 hours on high the next time and mom said that the chicken was much drier this time so you can’t really switch up the cooking time/heat settings.  Next time I’m sticking with 8 hours on low again!

Attended a fundraiser for a friend who has a family member that is going through some medical issues.  As a thank you the family made and gave out these bracelets.  It says Kapatid – Sibling. Thank you for your support, From the Mayo Family.

FINALLY got a haircut!  I wanted to keep the length…and so I only said 3 inches.  In reality its more like 6 inches he cut off…he cut off the initial 3…and then he kept snipping and snipping when he was shaping it…
It’s only hair…it’ll grow back right? :T

And we can’t get a cut without some color right?  I asked for blue-black this time.  I wanted something darker than usual.  I had a minor panic attack when the girl’s gloves started to take on a hue of purple!!  But it came out good.  I love the color!  And its rare that I love anything with my hair!  I just wish I had time for an oil treatment too because it only LOOKS shiny and healthy…it feels like straw!

Starbucks gold card!  I haven’t really used the card much…since I just go to get the free drinks that I accumulate from dad’s transactions!
