Almost Ready To Go

Its 1:30am as I type this.  Usually I’m tucked away in bed by now catching up on episodes of TV shows dvr’ed from last season…but I figured that since we plan on leaving for Atlantic City early on Saturday I should get a head start on packing instead of waiting until tomorrow night.

{via}

I am a notorious overpacker.  But most of the time I will wear every piece of clothing and every pair of shoes I bring.  (I think I brought seven pairs of shoes to Aruba last year…and I wore EVERY ONE!)  I have been known in college to change my outfit 2-3 times per day – morning classes were usually attended in sweats…afternoon classes was jeans and a tshirt and at night if I went out for dinner or drinks that would be another outfit…and then sometimes back into another set of comfy sweats for lounging around in the dorms!  Because we are driving to our destination instead of flying, I don’t feel as guilty about overpacking this time! :)

During lunch today I went to the super market and picked up all of the non-Asian groceries.  (I can’t wait to cook the Cornish hens I got…they’re SO cute!) I separated them all between perishable and non and packed them away accordingly.  I also packed up all the pantry items and things from home I wanted to bring.  Since we don’t go down to AC that often, I always forget what my aunt has stocked in her condo so I figure its better to bring it with us just in case so we don’t have to go hunting for it when we are there.  Earlier this week I was able to pack up all of the toiletries, hair and makeup goodies.  (ahhh the life of a project manager…)  The boy is responsible for all of the electronics..cameras, laptops, and cables, etc. Tomorrow I’ll go and pick up all of the Asian groceries and set everything up so that all we have to do is load the car in the morning before we hit the road!

Seems like a lot of packing, huh?  IT IS!  For groceries I anticipate that we will have three totes worth…maybe 4…yeah most likely 4.  But in my defense I’m saving us a lot of money by cooking while we’re down there instead of going out every day!  And plus, I think that dining out for all of your meals is grossly unhealthy for extended periods…our arteries will thank us later.  I managed to fit all of my clothes into a large gym bag…again…in my defense…the weather is only going to be in the 50′s when we are there-sweaters and such are so much thicker than summer clothes so that’s why my bag appears to be stuffed to the gills!  Since we are there for so many days, I’ll be taking advantage of her laundry room and also mixing and matching pieces so it doesn’t get dull! :)   My last bag (yeah if you’re counting that would be number 6) has all of our toiletries – I am bringing a lot of full sized products since we are there for so long and there’s two of us…taking travel sized things would take just as much room!  I packed a lot more hair and makeup products than I usually would have if we were hopping onto a plane.  This vacation we are looking to doing a lot of nothing and relaxing…and playing with hair and makeup relaxes me! :)

Hopefully the boy doesn’t have that many bags of his own…I think he should just have his clothes, laptop and camera bags.   So there you have it 9 bags for our little trip.  :)

Plant update

The floral beads seem to be dehydrating at different rates. They were all roughly the same size yesterday morning after being soaked but now some are obviously shrinking faster than the others. It’s happening to all of the colors I just took out some black ones since those are the easiest to see.  And at this rate I wonder if they will last for the 4-5 months that the package claims!  I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

Cleaning Up!

{via}

Its time for some spring cleaning!  Well….fall cleaning I suppose…

The boy made a good point the other day…a point that I’ve known for quite some time: I subscribe to WAY too many blogs!  So I’ve made an effort of going through and deleting a lot of the ones that I don’t read daily or just don’t like that much anymore.  I find that on a lot of the feeds I subscribe to that I don’t even read them…I just “mark all as read” in google reader and call it a day.

I’m thinking of implementing a new rule for myself…if I come across a blog I adore, I MUST unsubscribe to at least 2 of my older ones!

Cleaning out the clutter!

LivingSocial FAIL!

ANNOYED!

This is how I feel:

{via}

Three weeks ago I saw a deal on Living Social for a local Go Karting place.  $30 for what would normally be double the price.  The boy seemed to be pretty excited over it and since I still had $51 worth of credit (from another incident with them!), I decided to go ahead and purchase two of the deals for us, paying the remaining $9 balance with the credit card I had stored on file.

I thought it was odd that I didn’t get a confirmation email right away but since it was a pretty popular deal I thought maybe their system was a little slow in getting the confirmations out.
Fast forward two weeks later…I decided to check my cc account so I could pay off the $9 before I forgot…and what do I see?  NO CHARGES MADE…I logged onto my account online and saw that the $51 had been deducted from my “deal bucks” section with the correct vendor/deal specified…yet when I checked my vouchers there was nothing in there…
I decided to call them on their well hidden customer service number (because I knew emailing a ticket in would take even longer and would likely get me no response).  I know it is at no fault of the rep that answered the phone (thanks for being so cordial Mackenzie), but I couldn’t help but sound a little annoyed. She told me that it seemed like there was a problem with my credit card.  The credit card that was NOT expired, paid off fully, used only for online deals…
I told her that I was not notified by LivingSocial that there was a problem with my charge not going through.  I did not recieve any emails from them actually regarding confirmation or the decline!  Yes maybe I should have checked one week out instead of two..but that wouldn’t have gotten me the deal since it had already expired.
What I’m most annoyed about is the fact that their system deducted the credit from my account even though I never actually recieved the deal…
It was easy enough for the customer service rep to credit my account back, but they are still tarnished in my eyes!   This is the second time I have had a problem with them (the first a few months back – which resulted in the credit to begin with!), so I’m not really willing to give them a third chance…unless a really AMAZING deal comes along…
I think I’ll be subscribing to Groupon now…

Yogurtland

Even though there is no longer a Yogurtland in ny, I am still going to write about it…

I could easily be a froyo junkie if I had easy access to one…quite dangerous!  A Red Mango opened about 4 miles from my office and luckily I’ve only been there once so far.  4 miles is a little too far to trek for froyo!  Plus, this location is a self serve one so there is no one to stop me from adding all of the mochi and yogurt chips I want! See what I mean by dangerous??

I’m so upset that there isn’t a Yogurtland here anymore…why you ask?…
Because two of my favorite things…fro yo and SANRIO are teaming up!

{via}

From the Sanrio website:

Starting July 21, you’ll find Hello Kitty, My Melody, Keroppi and Chococat at the yummy frozen yogurt shop!

The limited edition collab will feature supercute collectibles including a Hello Kitty plush dressed in a Yogurtland uniform, key chains, and t-shirts featuring all four Sanrio pals. You’ll also find them on Yogurtland’s cups and biodegradable spoons!   All the goodies will be available only at Yogurtland locations for a six-weeks.

More info here

So for those of you lucky enough to have a Yogurtland near you…and are Hello Kitty crazed like me…enjoy! (While I sit and pout in the corner :( )

finding a new blog theme is harder than i thought…
there are so many free ones out there…they all appear perfect at first but after loading them up, they all seem to be either broken in some way or another, don’t support widgets or don’t have sidebars! i guess that’s why they’re free…
and my brain has been out of school for too long to even think about coding one myself!

and because i hate posting without any images….i leave you with this little guy:

snOMG!

thankfully i take the week between christmas and new year off every year so its not impacting me AS bad since i don’t really have to drive anywhere.

yesterday since i was snowed in, i did manage to clean my room and do a new set of gels…the picture organizing will have to wait until another day.  just thinking about it makes me anxious and start to twitch!

pearl base with a gold glitter gradient.  needless to say, the little dog is once again covered in glitter!

here’s some pictures of what the post christmas blizzard did to us:

this was at about 10pm on sunday night.  my neighbors had already shoveled once earlier in the evening:

the people that live across the street are assholes.  there i said it.  they dug their car out and drove away and someone else from the house put up this sign to reserve their spot:

my dad promptly removed their stupid sign after the picture was taken :)   this isn’t not a private driveway…you can’t reserve a spot on a public street!

i’ll be leaving my car right where it is for a few days at least!  maybe we’ll try to dig it out tomorrow:

most of the major roads in the area are plowed…too bad we can’t say the same about the side streets!  the dept of sanitation completely blocked off this street when they plowed the avenue and it hasn’t been touched at all since.

another side street that hasn’t been plowed:

till next time!

Shecky’s Beauty Night Out

For as far back as I can remember I’ve received emails about Shecky’s Girls Night Out .  I’ve always been tempted to check it out – shopping…open bar…discounts…and a goodie bag!  All for around $30/ticket.  I just never got around to getting a ticket and a friend to go.  Fast forward to some emails talking about another event called Shecky’s Beauty Night Out.  Now this one caught my eye!  I noticed on the email there was a comment about how this would be the “biggest and best” goodie bag ever.  So I figured I’d give it a try.  For $20 (after promo code) I thought it might be worth it.  I met Amanda after work on a Thursday evening and off we went.

My overall impression of the place was just ehh…I was expecting more.  The venue was awkward.  The event was spread across 4 connecting rooms with the room that had the goodie bag pickup at the far end.  Located in that room was also the various alcohol sponsors.  The place was packed to the gills!  The purchase of a goodie bag ticket was optional – but I’d say that 99% of the girls in there purchased those tickets.  I even saw some of the vendors with them – but I’m sure they were given to them for free.

Here’s what some of the booths looked like:

But enough of that…onto what I REALLY went there for!

The goodie bag!

(Please ignore the puppy who is trying to steal the spotlight)

Yes – that is TWO bags full of stuff that they gave us!
Imagine carrying those two bags, a purse, all sorts of other freebies, and a drink while trying to dodge other girls doing the same WHILE browsing/shopping!

After we made one pass of the place we called it a night and headed back to the car to check out our swag!

They claimed that the bag contained $150 worth of stuff.  So when I got home I logged onto drugstore.com to look up the prices on the full sized items they gave.

It came out to be about $135 – for only the full sized items – so I suppose with all of the sample and trial sized things in the bag it could have been worth $150ish.   The best thing out of the bag was probably the Aquafresh White Trays – which has a retail value of about $35.

Overall, thumbs UP for the goodie bag and the organization of the event (check-in was a breeze, staff was friendly and accommodating, bar lines were not that crowded) but thumbs DOWN for the quality of the vendors and the choice of the venue.  Oh and did I mention it felt like it was 90 degrees in there!

Since I felt that the goodie bag was worth my $20 I convinced Elaine to go to the Girls Night Out with me this week!  She has been looking for jewelry lately so hopefully they’ll have something good there! I’ve read that the vendors at the GNO event are much better (and there are many more) than at the BNO one.

Hopefully the goodie bag contents from the GNO event is just as good but a little different than from the BNO one!  Stay tuned to see!
